About the Book

Ravenwick is broke, so I am taking my students into the criminal underworld to fix it. That part was the plan.

The part that was not: my old wet-work outfit has noticed the startup, and they have decided that a squad of grad students running jobs on their patch is a problem with a straightforward solution.

I am Victor Kaine, and I still do not have a scrap of magic. What I have is a pistol, a lot of years of tradecraft, and a class of the most dangerous young women in the country who have somehow decided that I am theirs. Out here there is no Board to answer to and no wards to hide behind. There is live fire, a great deal of it aimed at us, and however much I can teach them between one contact and the next.

My girls now include a dominatrix with strong views on team discipline. She is, annoyingly, very good at her job.

Following the Interacademy Tournament the Academy is running on fumes, somebody has to find next term’s budget, and it turns out that somebody is me. Ballistic Thaumatology, off campus, live rounds, and a great deal of hands-on instruction.

They have fireballs. I have a Glock and a very short window.

Let the extracurriculars begin.
